Non encrypted HTML in Thunderbird

I'm running Thunderbird version 24.1.0 and have successfully installed
the Enigmail 1.6 add-on. I've also been able to generate keys and have
sent test messages, both signed and encrypted between test e-mail accounts.

What I would like to do is also send HTML non-encrypted e-mails.
Unfortunately the setup wizard seems to have precluded this choice.
When I want to compose a new HTML e-mail, by holding down the shift key
while left clicking "new message", a HTML write window briefly appears
but instantly changes to a text only one. Is it possible to configure
the combination to send non-encrypted or non-signed HTML e-mail? Most
of my e-mail needs are for un-encrypted mail. I've tried disabling the
add-on but still have no success in authoring HTML mail.

Hi, John.

You are running the same version of Thunderbird as I am yet when I
hold shift and click the Write button the compose window appears and
remains in HTML mode as it should. I don't know what setting or
combination of settings would cause rich text selection to revert to
plain text.

I will note, however, that holding shift while clicking New Message
below the Message menu will do absolutely nothing special. The shift
only has effect when clicking the "Write" button. If you do not have
the Write button on your toolbar, add it and give it a try.

John, on which keyservers if any is your public key? I've tried several,
either they're down or your key is not there.
