I have just downloaded and am about to install PGP Desktop Encryption 10.3.1 from Symantec. Last time I used PGP it was owned by PGP Corp
so that kind of dates me a little ;)

It has been years since I’ve been involved with PGP-Basics, but am looking forward to meeting a few of you and exchanging emails, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Well, for one thing I using a MacBook Pro laptop with Mavericks 10.9.1 as
an OS. Downloading and installing PGP 10.3.1 was seamless. I am also using
Apple Mail v7.1 (1827) and do all my signing/encrypting via the clipboard,
which is a little cumbersome at times. I seem to remember using PGP with
BeckyMail in my ‘Windows’ days an awful lot easier.

Anyone else on the List using a Mac Computer?

For the Mac you might want to take a look at GPGTools -- https://gpgtools.org/

It's an all-in-one package including backend and Mail plugin, and a "PGP Keychain" program, among other useful bits..

Why would you run pgp on a mac platform?  PGP is for us govt contractors that have been mandated to run windows.

NIST documentation and definition of safe harbor. I am not an expert.  Linux is not Fips certified and thus is not eligible foe certification of safe harbor and quallification for insurance.

None of which means that "PGP is for U.S. government contractors that
have been mandated to run Windows."

PGP may be used by those people, but it's used by a whole lot more
people than just contractors mandated to run Windows!

Thanks for starting up PGP-Basics all those years ago, Nick, and
welcome back to discussions!

Since the loss of our friend and the end of the CKT builds I had
migrated from PGP to GnuPG entirely. That was about at the time of
your last participation. I am presently using GnuPG 1.4.13 for
implementation, and Enigmail 1.6 under Thunderbird 24.2.0 for
messaging. Despite Enigmail's advances in key management I still tend
to use GPGShell for those tasks (probably mostly because it offers the
ability to easily switch between combinations of keyrings). If it's
not obvious, I'm still primarily using Windows OS.
